Transporter expression and TH action in the brain

Prof. Dr. med. Ingo Bechmann & Prof. Dr. Heike Biebermann

MCT8 is a specific TH transporter in the brain. In this project, spatiotemporal expression of MCT8 from early weeks of gestation to adult healthy and diseased human brains will be examined. In a complementary approach, we will develop MCT8 reporter stem cell models to monitor MCT8 expression during cerebral organoid differentiation and development and to enable enrichment of MCT8-expressing neuronal cell types for transcriptome analyses.
