TH action in hiPSC-derived brain organoids

Prof. Dr. med. Peter Kühnen & Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Robert Opitz

TH is critical for brain development and function but knowledge of molecular mechanisms of TH action on human brain development is still very fragmentary. We will study neuronal differentiation and cell type-specific regulation of genes implicated in TH action in hiPCS-derived cerebral organoids in response to conditions mimicking developmental hypo- and hyperthyroidism. In a translational approach, this project further aims at characterising the impact on neuronal development in a human cerebral organoid model system for mutations in key genes involved in local control of TH action.
