LOCOTACT Lectures - Guo Huang
Many thanks to Guo Huang for his impressive presentation to kick off the LOCOTACT Lectures.
Especially for the young scientists of our CRC the lectures has been a great inspiration and motivation!
Guo Huang enjoyed all discussions and interactions about his talk.
LOCOTACT-Lectures
The monthly lectures with invited guest speakers start on September 9, 2021 and will take place on thursdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm via Zoom.
It is our great pleasure to announce our first Speaker:
Guo Huang, Ph.D from the University of California, San Francisco. Guo Huang is an expert in regeneration of cardiomyocytes, regenerative potential vs. thermogenesis, evolution and the role of thyroid hormones Huang Lab at UCSF
ETA eConference 2021: Steffen Mayerl speaks about GABAergic interneurons
LOCOTACT was represented at the 2021 ETA eConference by PI Steffen Mayerl. In the Sunday evening oral session he gave his talk "Thyroid hormone transport impacts multiple stages of GABAergic interneuron development".
43rd annual ETA eConference 2021
We would like to congratulate two award winners of our LOCOTACT consortium!
Junior group leader and LOCOTACT PI Dr. Steffen Mayerl was awarded with the ETA Jack Robbins Prize for his presentation on the role of thyroid hormone transporters in GABAergic interneuron development.
Ann-Kathrin Schörding, MD student in the group of Prof. Lars Moeller received the prestigious Young Investigator Award for her outstanding presentation on canonical thyroid hormone action in bone development.
Thanks to everyone who actively paticipated and represented our consortium during the meeting!
43rd annual ETA eConference 2021 - Programme
Only a few days are left until the opening of the European THYROID Association eConference 2021!
It is our great pleasure to announce six speakers of the LOCOTACT consortium:

The Physiological Society’s Annual Conference 2021: Presentation by Heike Heuer
Heike Heuer was invited to the 2021 Annual Conference of the Physiological Society - this year taking place as a virtual conference. On 14.07.2021 she gave her presentation entitled "Thyroid Transporters within the hypothalamus-pituitary thyroid axis".
LOCOTACT says thank you for representing your projects on this international stage.
Four MD Fellowships within our iRTG
We warmly welcome four young scientists in LOCOTACT who successfully applied for iRTG MD Fellowships!
Audrey Bresser will investigate TH regulation of neuronal development in human cerebral organoids (Project 04; PI: Prof. Peter Kühnen).
Livia Hoerner will study selenium-contanining proteins as biomarkers of tissue function and damage (Project 17; PI: Prof. Lutz Schomburg).
Jonas Rotter will analyse the function and expression of thyroid hormone transporters in the elderly and in patients with neurodegenerative diseases (Project 03; PI: Prof. Ingo Bechmann).
Wiebke Werner will unravel the immune microenvironment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in the context of local thyroid hormone metabolism (Project 15; PI: Prof. Frank Tacke)
Good Luck with your projects!
New LOCOTACT Project
We are pleased that the project of Dr. Steffen Mayerl on "Impact of thyroid hormone transport on seizure generation" is now part of LOCOTACT as Project 19.
In this project, Dr. Mayerl and his team will investigate the pathogenic mechanisms underlying the increased seizure susceptibility of human MCT8 patients.
To this end, they will address the importance of TH transporters for different neuronal populations as well as the consequences of seizure induction in TH transporter deficiency and their role in the transition to epilepsy.
